A reusable silicone cup sleeve could mean big resource savings at coffee shops and beyond.
CoolaCup.jpgUsing more eco-friendly products in the kitchen can make a major difference in the amount of household waste disposed of on a weekly basis. Many reusable kitchen products are now commonly available, so using cardboard or paper options is no longer a necessity. To save waste, many people use washable cups rather than disposable paper or plastic products. Now, a new reusable cup accessory is on the market.
The CoolaCup, a cup sleeve for use on either a hot or cold beverage, is an alternative to the cardboard cup sleeves so many people and coffee shops are using today. CoolaCups are made of silicone, a material that consists of synthetic compounds that offer a rubbery touch and are heat and slip resistant. Using stronger material than cardboard, a CoolaCup would be a safer alternative for quickly making and carrying a cup of coffee on the way to work.
Although there is not a determined lifespan for the product, CoolaCups are certainly reusable and even dishwasher-safe. The already small product is collapsible, so it can be easily stored in small spaces around the kitchen, and it can expand to fit a cup of any size.
Reusable products like the CoolaCup have become a popular trend in both the kitchen and on the go, replacing their former, wasteful alternatives. Another example of this is using flexible silicone baking cups in lieu of the traditional paper baking cups that end up in the trash. With products like these, spending time in the kitchen could become less wasteful. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they will also save consumers money since they do not have to be regularly replaced.
It would be great for coffee shops to hop on this reusable sleeve bandwagon as well. Coffee shops could start offering silicone cup sleeves to accompany their drinks or even give a discount to customers who show up with their own reusable cup sleeve. This could be a major step to allow the food and beverage business to be a more eco-friendly industry.
Retailing for around $4, the CoolaCup, like many other products, is helping take an affordable step in the right direction to reduce household waste
