The City of Raleigh needs nature instructors for programs at various locations in the city, including Durant Nature Park, Laurel Hills Park, and Powell Drive Park, Wake County Schools or private schools. These curriculum based programs are designed to introduce specific nature topics to children from preschool through fifth grade. Programs have lesson plans and materials provided. All you need to bring is your love of nature and kids.
The Bald Head Island Conservancy is now accepting applications for its Summer 2016 Coastal Environmental and non-profit Internship program! The BHI Conservancy offers internships in specific areas of interest: Education, Conservation, Communications, and Sea Turtle Protection. Located in a unique area bounded by the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, The BHI Conservancy is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1983. The Conservancy's mission is barrier island conservation, preservation and education. Includes stipend, living quarters, and ferry tickets for trips between the island and mainland.
(Note that this is not an educational position, but is still a great way to work outdoors in an environmental education environment and to gain experience in park operations.) Employee’s primary duty is to maintain a safe and clean park environment through: turf and landscape maintenance, trash collection, janitorial tasks, building maintenance, and various construction and/or repair projects. Other duties include opening park facilities, enforcement of park rules, trail maintenance, equipment maintenance, trail patrols, and natural resources management. Applicant must be willing to work two weekends per month and some holidays.
We are seeking a science teacher for middle school science, including earth/environmental science. We are a small public charter school located 20 minutes from Chapel Hill, NC. Our class sizes are small and our school has an environmental focus.
Experience the coast of NC and provide amazing outdoor education experiences for youth. Don Lee Center hosts the Coastal Communities environmental education program focusing on coastal ecology, marine science, and natural history as well as the Common Ground team building program for school groups.
The Summit Environmental Education Center at Haw River State Park is the only residential environmental education program in the NC State Park system! The Summit is an outdoor education center located at Haw River State Park, in beautiful Browns Summit, near Greensboro, NC. We're seeking dedicated, creative, fun outdoor enthusiasts with high-energy to become Summit instructors. Summit instructors work with children ages 7 to 18 years old. They also facilitate adult groups through team-building activities.
This is a part-time (12-16 hour) weekend position responsible for conducting a variety of educational programs in the Science Center’s Aquarium as well as handling and presenting program animals for birthday parties. This position requires strong teaching, speaking, and communication skills. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for teaching, have a strong interest in science (particularly marine science), and enjoy working closely with people of all ages. Programs include interpretive gallery talks, Aquarium tours, Penguin Encounters, and birthday party program animal presentations.
The Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation is currently seeking applications for a full-time Education Specialist naturalist position that tentatively begins in January of 2016. If you would like to join us in fulfilling our mission of “inspiring conservation of the natural world by helping our guests explore, understand and value the wonders of Grandfather Mountain,” then consider applying for this position. This position is a great opportunity for an individual to gain deeper experience in the fields of environmental education, interpretation, and resource management.
The Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Development & Communications. This position is responsible for executing all communications supporting brand awareness, programs, partnerships, fundraising and marketing campaigns.
The Outdoor School Supervisor’s primary responsibility is oversight of the Educational Adventures (EA) Programs within the Outdoor School (OS) of the U.S. National Whitewater Center while creating a vision to continue the growth and expansion of the school. As part of the Outdoor School, this person will also assist with the supervision of ancillary programs including summer camps, wilderness medicine/survival, special events, and other programs as needed. OS Supervisor is a full-time, benefits eligible position and reports directly to the Outdoor School Director.

February 2016

The Bald Head Island Conservancy is now accepting applications for its Summer 2016 Coastal Environmental and non-profit Internship program! The BHI Conservancy offers internships to help emerging environmentalists gain skills and experience in specific areas of interest: Education, Conservation, Communications, and Sea Turtle Protection. As an Education Intern, you will teach a variety of environmental programs for audiences of all ages including kayaking, dissections and nature hikes, lead games, crafts and field trips to area wildlife locations, and care for live exhibits that house local wildlife including marine aquaria, reptiles and amphibians.
(Note that this is not an educational position, but is still a great way to work outdoors in an environmental education environment and to gain experience in park operations.) This position begins immediately and is ongoing, year-round. Primary duties are to open North Wake Landfill District Park (main gate and 4 trail gates), spot clean and stock restrooms, check and pull recycling and trash, enforce park rules and regulations, and check other park features. Hours are 4 hours every 2nd or 3rd weekend.
Reporting directly to the Education Curator, this fast-paced, high energy seasonal position is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive set of youth and adult programs and field experiences for a range of audiences. These experiences include school programs, day programs, night programs, day camps and week-long summer camps.
Schoolhouse of Wonder is seeking a lead camp counselor for Wake County. A Schoolhouse of Wonder Camp Counselor takes pride and joy in mentoring children through outdoor adventures, games, stories, and songs. These individuals can partner energy with patience, and responsibility with fun. A Schoolhouse Camp Counselor is a mentor worth remembering and emulating.
The job of Administrative Assistant is a part-time (20-30 hours per week), salaried position that will oversee the needs of MS’ primary administrative office in Brevard, NC. Responsibilities to include the implementation and management of the organization’s Community Sponsor database, social media sites and both the MS and Camp MS websites, assisting with general outreach, communications and development activities, coordination of billing and financial reporting, assistance with donor events and primary responsibility for general office needs in support of MS’ Executive Director and WNC Program Director. Primary reporting will be to the Executive Director.

April 2016

The Camp Directors are responsible for the daily operation of camp and the development of nature based activities/programming based on the theme for the week. The Camp Directors supervise campers, oversee camper safety and participates in all activities with campers. Camp sessions run June 13th – August 5th, M-F from 9am-5pm, with no camp July 18-22. Mandatory paid staff trainings and planning days will be from mid-May to mid-June.
